Financial Peace University
Peace Lutheran Church offers a class called Financial Peace University. If you are interested in taking this life-changing class, please let Val Ross to find out when the next class will be held. Here are the particulars…
Class is 9 weeks long
Cost is $89 per couple/family, + shipping
Watch this web site for future dates.
This fall, we are going to offer the teenaged-version of Financial Peace University to our Peace Lutheran teens (grades 7-12). I feel pretty passionate about getting kids started on the right foot with money. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could avoid some of the mistakes that most of us made when we were younger, regarding money at least?
This is a new curriculum offered through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, called Generation Change. The class is 9 weeks long, and will be held during Sunday School Class time (about 11am to noon), this fall (from roughly Sept 22 thru Nov 17, those dates may change just slightly).
The class description is:
Generation Change is a Bible study designed to lead teens to a better understanding of God, themselves and their money—and how it all works together. In the three individual three-week teaching series, students are equipped with biblical principles to BE who God created them to be, DO more with their money, and GO out into the world ready to write their story. Each series includes lesson DVDs featuring Dave Ramsey and his daughter, Rachel Cruze, as well as a guide for leading the study and a student workbook for each participant.
The 9 weeks will cover:
Series 1: BE Who God Created
Be Yourself – Your identity isn’t in what the world says, but in what the Word says.
Be Realistic – Don’t let advertising and peer pressure shape your view of yourself.
Be Aware – Debunk the most common teen money myths.
Series 2: DO More With Your Money
Do the Details – Discover the difference between wants and needs.
Do the Math – Learn the ins and outs of budgeting, saving and investing.
Do Your Part – Understand what it means to be a good steward.
Series 3: GO write your story
Go Debt Free – Commit to a debt-free life.
Go to Work – Discover your unique calling.
Go the Distance – Follow God’s plan through the college years and beyond.
There is no cost to the kids. I do ask that if they commit to the course, they attend all 9 sessions. Kids must attend at least 8 sessions to officially graduate from the course. They will get so much more out of it if they are there each week. These sessions are highly informative and very entertaining. I think they’ll really like it!!
The library offers a variety of books and resources for all ages and interests. Check out the library anytime. If you have any questions or requests, talk to Judi Beagley.
Volunteers, led by Suzanne Fischer, put together a cookbook celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Peace Lutheran Church. The cookbook costs $20/each.
Passing on Faith
Resources are available to families to help them pass on the faith to their children. A page of ideas is provided in each month’s newsletter. One idea that came from this program is providing FaithChests to each child baptized in Peace Lutheran Church to collect symbols, books, memories, gifts, stories, photos relating to faith life of the child.
